The femme power-house of this all-female design collective, MATTER OF COURSE, hits Milan Design Week.
Published On: 23/06/2022
Berlin-based, all-female design collective, MATTER OF COURSE straddles the fine line between art and design. Formed at the height of the pandemic by a group of incredible designers to promote community, sustainable practices and showcase the quality of designers committed to their craft.
MATTER OF COURSE, exhibition: Balancing Act
“Whether through exhibitions, publications, panels, or interdisciplinary collaborations, we challenge concepts that are taken for granted while inspiring a strong sense of community and sustainable consuming practices.” https://www.matter-of-course.com/
The collective consists of 11 designers across the fields of furniture, object design, glassware textiles and lighting. They share a common ethos for designing and producing beautiful objects of desire, sustainably handcrafted and made in a way that ensures fair working conditions and remuneration for all people involved in the process.

After a successful Architectural Digest editorial “beyond objects” and debut group exhibition at Berlin’s friend space “Balancing Act,” MATTER OF COURSE recently exhibited at Milan Design Week in a breakthrough new exhibition called "Ich und Du: Reflections on the spaces between us—and the connections that bind us together."
The exhibition features objects handcrafted in glass, wood, clay, textiles, metal, and water and are presented in a series of unexpected vignettes, encouraging each of us to consider the art—and power—of interaction, both with our fellow humans and the natural environment.

Curators Anava Projects note: “Against the backdrop of the past few years, our interconnectedness with one another has taken on a new sense of urgency. At a time when both human rights and our environment are under great threat, we can find ourselves at a great distance from one another, both physically and metaphorically."

It's inspiring to see this group coming together to strengthen design, production practices and put people and the environment at the forefront of everything they do.
