these rugs really 'tie the room together'
Nanimarquina - a lot to luv
Published On: 5/5/2023
Last year, the second-generation family business, Nanimarquina, celebrated their 35th anniversary, a pinnacle that many in the design world don’t reach, especially with the amount of success and influence the company has achieved.
The Spanish rug manufacturer made a name for itself by producing distinctive, contemporary, handmade rugs utilising ancient techniques from all over the world. Their one-of-a-kind designs are colourful works of art that combine tradition with modern design.

Collaborations with an esteemed lineup of modern designers and artists, such as Ilse Crawford and Jaime Hayon, and the skill of artisans in India, Pakistan, and Nepal, have resulted in the production of rugs of outstanding quality and exquisite beauty.
“At Nanimarquina, we explore the aesthetics of emotion mainly through colour. It is magical to see how its presence—and absence—influences spaces and people. ”

In 2022, through carbon offsets from materials, manufacturing, transportation, and retailing, they became the first company of its kind to achieve a Carbon Neutral Certification! After creating a measurement program for their 2021 footprint, they were able to establish and implement an annual reduction plan that will help them cut CO2 emissions every year.
“We ensure that the entire chain, from the design conception to the choice of materials, processes, and techniques, is as respectful as possible towards the environment.”
Outdoor collections use materials such as 100% recycled PET and recycled rubber from bicycle tires, that would otherwise sit in landfills in India. New additions, such as the Re-Rug, utilise the excess wool that suppliers accumulate, demonstrating Nanimarquina's ongoing commitment to circular design and manufacturing. Furthermore, the use of biodegradable and chemical-free cleaning products, Eco Sheen and Jutex, reduce 70% of water waste during the rug cleaning process.

Having excelled in the industry in terms of both design and environmental principles, they never lose sight of their commitment to socially responsible production. Dedicated to the prevention of child labor and to raising living standards for those involved in the manufacturing process, they teamed up with the Care & Fair organisation, which supports education and health for carpet-knotting families in India and Pakistan.
“At Nanimarquina, we are committed to craftsmanship and the preservation of the local economy, fostering its development.”
Rabari, Nipa Doshi & Jonathan Levien
Having been longtime admirers of Nanmarquina's vibrant and eclectic rugs, learning more about their exemplary social and environmental commitments has only helped us to love them more! We hope more companies follow suit.
