a four day design exhibition for all of you design addicts out there

With DMY (Berlin’s annual International Design Festival) being cancelled this year, we made our way to the second annual State of Design Berlin. Located in the storage room of the old Kindl Brewery, this festival seeks to explore the experimental, critical and social order of design. It is a four day exhibition that hosts talks, workshops and films.

From the work that was presented, we bring you some of the pieces that stood out from the rest, in no particular order. Browse, admire and click - your click will take you to the company/designer page so you can learn more.

*Check out the vegetarian / vegan coffee shop with homemade cakes - König Otto located within the old brewery (the Kindl Center for Contemporary Art) in Berlin Neukölln, it is something to be seen in itself!

JOLLYPOP | MARCH

Natural colour, homemade taste, mouth watering looks. Gmo free, Gluten free, Alergen free, Handmade.

LYFE | FLYTE

LYFE - a zero-gravity growing system allowing you to cultivate your favourite plants in mid-air. Through magnetic levitation powered via induction, the object continuously rotates 360 degrees allowing plants to get sun all around - so go get a Lyfe!

NAIVE CHAIR | ETCETC STUDIO

Six sticks and one seat. This chair can be flat-packed into a pizza box and it takes only a minute to assemble or disassemble it.

HILBERT BY OSCAR HUGAL FOR NATE LIGHTS

Hilbert is an apparatus with multiple switches for operating a light bulb. The user is to look for specific combination of switches to turn on the bulb. On the inside, there is a manual with hieroglyphic symbols, turning the lamp into a riddle.

ZANDGLAS | ATELIER NL

The small bowls showcase sand sourced from various parts of the Netherlands, that is fired into glass of blue/green hues. The carafe and three drinking glasses are unique to the region the material came from. How fantastic is that!

charles pétillon's balloon installations

Photographer Charles Pétillon is the artist behind the in situ balloon installations where his process begins with the visualization of the final framed image. Pétillon is known for his work titled 'invasions' - a series of photographs depicting balloon clusters in unusual outdoor settings.

serpentine pavilion 2017

Netflix has a great series titled Abstract: The Art Of Design. This series takes an in-depth look at different artistic fields. Architecture is one of them and it features Bjarke Ingels' 2016 design for London's Serpentine Pavilion. This year, beaming blue amongst the trees of Kensington Gardens in Hyde Park, is the pavilion by chosen Berlin-based architect Diébédo Francis Kéré.

How often do you get to go to a free, interactive exhibition in an amazing industrial space and given a camera to freely take all the photographs you desire? In Berlin you get this opportunity once a year at the Olympus Perspective Playground.

Hella Jongerius’ exhibition Breathing Colour will be on display June 28th at the Design Museum in London. This installation will take a deeper look at the way colour behaves - exploring sheers, materials, shadows and reflection.
